Great point Chris. I just read a book on trust that makes the point that implicit in the concept of trust is vulnerability...you are trusting someone else to act in some way on your behalf and are reliant on them to execute in the manner you would want it done. When others fail us, it leads to us being cynical and doubtful...yet life is too complex to do everything yourself, so we're forced to trust others even when we are burned. When we aren't burned, that can lead to overtrusting.
On one hand people trust some things too much yet we are so cynical and doubt so many otherthings.
